No charges for officer who shot knife-wielding suspect

HAMILTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The officers involved in the August 23 shooting of Kelley Forte will not be charged in the case, according to the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Hamilton police, early on the morning of August 23, officers responded to several 911 calls around 2:30 a.m. on Monday at the Walgreen’s in the 1000 block of High Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man armed with a knife holding the pharmacist hostage. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Kelly Brandon Forte had the knife to the Walgreens Pharmacist’s throat.

Police ordered Forte to release the hostage and surrender. When the suspect did not comply, an officer fatally shot the suspect.

The case was taken to a Butler County grand jury and that grand jury returned no indictments.

The Hamilton Police Department will hold a news conference Monday to review the incident and show the video taken inside the store.
