Garage, car fire in Dayton considered suspicious

Garage and car fire in Dayton considered suspicious by investigators.

DAYTON (WDTN) – Investigators say an early-morning garage fire in Dayton is suspicious.

Firefighters were called to the 1400 block of Tampa Avenue in Dayton around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When they arrived, firefighters found a detached garage and a car outside of the garage on fire.

Crews say they aren’t sure which fire started first, but they say it took additional manpower to knock down the flames.

“We laid two lines because they weren’t in the same location, but then we had to stretch the one line because the garage was on the other side of the alley,” Dayton District Fire Chief Cheryl Clark said. “So, it was necessary for us to extend our line in order to reach the back of the garage.”

Firefighters estimate the fire caused at least $5,000 in damages.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
