Vacant house burns in Dayton

A vacant house burns on Tyson Avenue in Dayton.

DAYTON (WDTN) – A vacant house in Dayton was seriously damaged by fire on Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out just after 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday in the 700 block of Tyson Avenue.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters say the home had been vacant for a long time, and that made it more difficult to contain the fire.

“The hardest part was getting to the back of the structure,” District Fire Chief Cheryl Clark with the Dayton Fire Department said. “When the crews initially laid a line and we tried to take a second line around to the back, it was so overgrown that we had problems accessing the back.”

Firefighters say no one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
