Police: Suspect wanted ‘just a ticket’ for driving stolen car

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – While on patrol on the south side of Youngstown Wednesday, officers ran a license plate of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Southern Boulevard and discovered it was stolen out of Portage County.

Officers followed the vehicle to a house on Hilton Avenue where they saw the passenger of the vehicle get out and take off. The driver, identified as Tay’Quan Charlton, 19, of Youngstown, was walking to the front door of the house when officers approached him.

Charlton was detained as officers searched the vehicle where they found a digital scale with white reside, several backpacks containing items such as watches, IDs, laptops and other items.

Charlton was arrested at the scene and while en route to the jail, officers said he asked why they “couldn’t just give me a ticket? It’s only a stolen car?”

Charlton is facing charges of receiving stolen property, driving while under suspension, and drug paraphernalia.
