SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – From a story WDTN.com first told you last week, the school bus driver who saved a girl from being hit by a car was honored Wednesday.
The Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly and Tecumseh Local School Board President Kurt Lewis recognized Tina Perkins with Tecumseh Local School District for her actions that may have saved that student’s life.
Surveillance video shows Tina Perkins quickly stopping the 7th-grade student from exiting the bus after she spots a speeding car in the rearview mirror.
Both the student and Perkins were stunned as the car swerved into the ditch, where the child would have been.
“We have to look out for these kids because mostly driver, they go right by. So it’s our job and our responsibility to make sure we watch out for the safety of the kids,” Perkins said last week.
Sheriff Kelly said Wednesday Perkins “averted a possible tragedy” with her quick actions.
