DAYTON (WDTN) – A man says people broke into his apartment and shot at him early on Wednesday morning.

Police are on the scene of the reported burglary attempt with shots fired. It’s the same apartment, in the 400 block of Briarwood Avenue, where a man was shot in the head on Sunday.

That man, 27-year-old Markqanthony Mooty, died at a hospital around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Montgomery County Coroner.

Wednesday’s incident happened just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim says 3-4 men wearing masks broke into his apartment while he was in the process of moving.

The victim says he fled to a bathroom and barricaded himself inside. He says the men tried to break down the door, then fired shots through the door. The man was not hit.

He says he believes Wednesday’s break-in is retaliation for the shooting of Mooty on Sunday. The man says this is the third shooting at this apartment in the past few months.
