DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A teacher newly hired at a Dayton elementary school has been arrested in connection with a rape investigation.
Dayton Public Shools confirmed to 2 NEWS the person in question is an employee and has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation but would not comment further.
Englewood Police said Friday they received a complaint on September 10 of a sexual assault to an 8-year-old victim and the abuse is “believed to have occurred over a period of years.” Police say the teacher was arrested and held in the Montgomery County jail on a probable cause charge of rape. No Dayton Public School student is involved in this case.
The suspect’s home was searched on September 14, according to police. The suspect, who WDTN.com will not name because no charges have been filed against him, was released from jail Thursday at the request of the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office while they await results from crime laboratory tests from items collected during the investigation.
Englewood Police were called to Dayton Children’s Hospital Saturday just after midnight for a possible sexual assault.
Englewood Police Detectives are still investigating and more information about this case is expected in the coming days.
