DAYTON (WDTN) – A Dayton movie theater is getting an upgrade.
New seats are being installed at the Neon Theater, beginning on Monday.
The current chairs were reupholstered 15 years ago, but the actual seats date back to 1986 when the theater opened. Neon Theater manager Jonathan McNeal says it was time to make some improvements.
“The chairs were 30 years old, so they were starting to show signs of age, with constant squeaking and also, just the metal failure as well here and there,” McNeal said. “They were often in need of repair, so it was time to do an upgrade.”
The project isn’t cheap, costing $50,000 to replace the seats. To defer some of that cost, the theater started a go-fund-me campaign, with a goal of $25,000.
“Our customers and patrons came through and we raised more than $35,000, so we’re happy about that,” McNeal said. “It’s really validating to have the community kind of get behind what we do here.”
“I know we have a lot of fans who come out and support things we have on a regular basis.”
The theater will be closed on Monday, September 19th until Thursday, September, September 22nd. It will reopen on Friday, September 23rd with the new seats in place.
