Dayton garage fire considered ‘suspicious’

DAYTON (WDTN) – Dayton firefighters are on the scene of a suspicious garage fire.

Fire officials say they got a call from a random person passing by the 700 block of Steele Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A garage in the alley behind a home on Steele Avenue caught fire. The structure is a total loss.

Officials say the fire is considered to be suspicious. District Chief James Rose says damage done could add up to nearly $50,000.

Two cars inside the garage were also destroyed.

The fire damaged three surrounding garages. It does not appear the fire caused any damage to any homes.

There were live wires in the area of the fire. DP&L has been called to deal with any power issues to the area.

Investigators will be sifting through the evidence to determine an exact cause of the fire. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
