Off-duty Middletown firefighter tackles alleged shoplifter

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WLWT) — An off-duty Middletown firefighter helped take down an alleged shoplifter, police said.

The incident happened Friday at the Meijer store in the 3600 block of Towne Boulevard.

Officials said that the firefighter tackled Christopher Hinkle, who loaded his pockets with goods, attempted to walk out of the store and got into an argument with store employees.

The firefighter held Hinkle down until police arrived, at which point police found numerous stolen items stuffed in Hinkle’s pockets, according to court documents.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries.

Hinkle was arrested and charged with robbery.
