SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — Crews battled a large fire at a commercial building in Springfield on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters responded to a call for a three-alarm fire around 4 a.m. on Wednesday at Family Packaging in the 500 block of West Euclid Avenue.
Once crews arrived on the scene, they chose to fight the fire defensively due to it’s severity. The 35,000 square foot building was also believed to be vacant, adding to the firefighters decision on how to battle the blaze.
Firefighters say they’ll be at the scene most of the day, checking the building for hot spots.
Captain Tunney Morris with the Springfield Fire Department says the scene is too dangerous to send anyone inside, adding there’s nothing inside to save.
Morris says it will be hours before investigators can begin working to determine a cause. He adds the building is likely over 100 years old and built soundly, making it unlikely that the structure would collapse.
No one was injured in the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
