NEW PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) – Deputies in Preble County arrested a man last week on charges of making methamphetamine in his home.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office says on September 15 around 2:00 in the morning deputies searched a home in the 9100 block of Old National Road North just south of New Paris.

Investigators received information that methamphetamine was possibly being manufactured in the home.

During the search deputies found evidence that methamphetamine was being manufactured in the home including solvents, pseudoephedrine blister packs, lithium batteries, and containers which tested positive for anhydrous ammonia. Deputies also found about 1 gram of finished methamphetamine.

Deputies arrested Ronald D. Shanefelt, 45 who lived at the address. He has been formally charged in Eaton Municipal Court with the Illegal Manufacture of Drugs, Illegal Assembly or Possession of Chemicals For The Manufacture of Drugs, Endangering Children, and Aggravated Possession of Drugs, all felonies. Shanefelt was also charged with Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Investigators believe children were staying with Shanefelt on the weekends, although no children present at the time the search warrant was served.

All hazardous chemicals were rendered safe by Sheriff’s Office Clandestine Lab Technicians and removed to a hazardous waste site.

Shanefelt remains in the Preble County Jail.
