Victim ID’d in fatal Xenia Avenue shooting

Man found fatally shot on Xenia Avenue.

DAYTON (WDTN) — Police are looking for suspects after a man was found dead at a Xenia Avenue apartment.

Officers responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 300 block of Xenia Avenue.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has confirmed Leon S. Smith Jr., 19, as the victim in the overnight shooting.

Smith Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they’re looking for one shooter, but believe there are multiple suspects in the crime.

The shooter reportedly fled from the scene. Police say drugs were found at the scene of the shooting.

According to police, there was a report of shots fired at another residence near the scene of the shooting. Officers say that call appears to be unrelated to the shooting on Xenia Avenue.

The incident remains under investigation.
