CLAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Clayton Police are investigating after a man was shot in a bar parking lot.
It happened around 2:20 Monday morning in the 6500 block of N. Union Rd. at Cognac Lounge.
Police say a “big event” was happening inside the bar on Sunday. A man attempted to get into the bar; however, the event had already ended.
An argument happened outside of the bar, and the man went back to his car. At some point–the man fired three to five shots in a Ford Explorer. A male victim was hit three times.
A woman inside the car attempted to run away, but was run over by the suspect.
The male victim was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Both are expected to be okay. Detectives say they are waiting for the two to feel better before questioning them about the suspect.
Detective Paul Nabel is heading the case and says his department has been called out several times this year for shootings at Cognac’s, however he doesn’t consider it a problem spot.
“They have taken additional measures since then, There had been some shootings that were relatively close to each other. This past event, they actually had 10 security guards that were present. So, they have had an increase in presence,” said Nabel.
Following the shooting–police pursued the suspect for several miles; however, they lost the suspect near Good Samaritan Hospital.
Investigators are sifting through evidence at the scene. Police say they found several shell casings, and will also be using video surveillance from the bar to help the investigation.
