PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Piqua woman is accused of abusing children after they were afraid to leave school Monday.
Brandy L. Lewis, 37, was charged with third-degree felony child abuse Wednesday, according to our partners at the Piqua Daily Call. The alleged abuse was first reported by Piqua City Schools.
According to Miami County Municipal Court records, Lewis is being accused of excessively disciplining the victims after an incident in which a dog bit one of the victims. After finding out about the incident, Lewis allegedly grabbed one child by the throat and threw the child onto the couch by the child’s hair, according to the Piqua Daily Call. Lewis also allegedly “smacked” another child in the mouth, according to court records.
When questioned, Lewis denied committing those actions, saying she only spanked the victims to discipline them.
On separate occasions, Lewis was accused of pulling the victims’ hair or spanking them with a belt.
Lewis was arraigned on Wednesday. Her bond was set at $25,000, and she posted surety bond on Wednesday, according to the Piqua Daily Call. A preliminary hearing for Lewis was scheduled for Oct. 12.
