Message from former Daytonian in Fla. during storm

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Shane Knick and his family moved to Winter Park, Florida in July for work. Now, they’re working on hunkering down during Hurricane Matthew.

He spoke with us via FaceTime, proudly wearing his OSU baseball cap. “It’s amazing how many Buckeye fans I’ve found down here,” he smiled.

But a serious storm brews outside his home. “The media was saying last night that if you’re in a well-built structure far inland, like the Orlando area where we are, it’s safe,” he explained. “We’re in a brick home, stone block. We should be pretty safe. We’re going to be staying in the hallway. We have flashlights, batteries, and lots of bottled water. ”

Knick said he is a bit nervous. “You never know what to expect,” he said.

He has a message for his friends back in the Dayton area. “Hi to everybody, and enjoy the nice weather back there, and pray for us,” he said. “It’s going to be pretty ugly down here, especially for the folks right along the coast.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
