SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A reported home invasion ends with a person shot and another injured in Springfield.

Police responded to a call of shots fired during a home invasion in the 1800 block of Quincy Road just after 1 A.M. Thursday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a person shot in the front yard of the home. According to Investigators, the homeowner was awakened by a loud noise and found two men in the house.  One of the intruders was holding a handgun.

A physical altercation between the homeowner and one of the suspects took place causing the handgun to go off.   The suspect was then shot by another member of the family who was also home at the time and heard all the commotion.  The homeowner suffered minor injuries.

Springfield police said it’s unclear why this home was targeted.  “There’s nothing immediate that stands out as to why this house was picked.  It still appears to be fairly random at this point,” Springfield Police Detective James McCutcheon said.

The man who was shot is expected to be ok.  His name is not being released at this time.  Springfield police are still looking for the second suspect.
