HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) – Fire crews were sent to the Wright Brothers Elementary School in Huber Heights after the roof caught fire Thursday morning.

The school in the 5700 block of Harshmanville Road caught fire around 11:30 Thursday morning.

The Huber Heights Communication Center confirmed to 2 NEWS the school was on fire but said fire personnel had the fire under control. The Huber Heights Fire Chief said the fire began while by work was being performed on the roof of the building. Contractors were working on the roof which caused a spark.

Fire officials say the building is equipped with fire suppression equipment on the roof and this helped keep the small fire under control until fire fighters arrived. Only minimal damage was done to the building.

Students were not in class Thursday but teachers were working in the building. They were safely evacuated. School will reopen Monday as planned. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
