DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The 11-year-old girl hit by a car in Dayton Wednesday has died.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirms Makyla White died just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Police say White was on her way to a neighborhood store when she was hit by a car and dragged about 100 feet. The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of North Main Street, near Marathon Avenue. The driver of the car stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed. The accident is still under investigation.

Friday morning, members of the community gathered to put up a memorial and prayed for White.  Teddy bears, flowers and some of her favorite things were placed at the scene of the accident by family and friends.

“All this love out here showed me that there is people that care and they loved my daughter, and I knew that she might not have known it, but she didn’t have a chance to know it, which is a sad thing,” said William White, Makyla’s father.

“I just miss her. I can’t believe she’s gone,” said Tanya Gause, Makyla’s mother.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for the family.
