DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Twenty-five-year-old Kiara Scales, of Trotwood, is found guilty of a traffic-related crash that killed another motorist and an unborn child.
The July 2014 crash also injured two others.
Kiara Scales was found guilty of two counts aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault.
Dayton Police Officers were called to a report of a disturbance involving two vehicles in the area of Siebenthaler Avenue and Philadelphia Avenue. They were called shortly later to the scene of a traffic crash at the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Forest Avenue, according to a press release from Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck.
According to witnesses, Scales’ vehicle crossed the centerline and was traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran through a red light and struck a pickup truck at the
Sixty-year‐old Anthony Juan Foreman, was trapped in a pickup truck, taking the Dayton Fire Department roughly 20 minutes to extricate him. He later died at the hospital from injuries he suffered in the crash, according to the press release.
A second victim, a passenger in the defendant’s vehicle, was 5 months pregnant. She suffered serious injuries and her unborn fetus died from injuries he sustained in the crash.
Scales will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2017
