DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A substitute teacher was indicted Wednesday after prosecutors say he tried to solicit a minor for sex.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said Kenneth Smith, Jr. was indicted on several charges after he met a juvenile at a track meet and offered to pay the youth for a sex act.

Smith was charged with six counts including compelling prostitution, soliciting, and pandering.

Dayton Public School Officials say Smith was employed with Parallel, a company that contracts with DPS to supply substitute teachers. According to the school district, Smith does not work with Parallel at this time and has not been in any DPS classroom this school year. DPS says Smith was terminated by Parallel in February. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
