Person in clown costume accused of killing dog in Hocking County

LOGAN, OH (WCMH) – Clowns have been accused of scaring people in several local communities, but in Hocking County a witness said he saw a clown standing over the body of a dead dog.

NBC4 spoke with the dog’s owner, who said her mixed-breed dog was found near her front yard, clubbed to death.

That dog was killed near the intersection of S.R. 333 and Buckingham Road early last Friday. A man driving by told the dog’s owner he saw a clown standing over the body. Another neighbor first on the scene said he has concerns with that story.

Neighbor Harry Nihiser said the ground was still covered in dew and when he arrived, just the dog’s owner had been near the body.

“I saw a track going in and a track going out and it ended at the driveway. And I went up and looked in the field where she said he went and (I didn’t see)no tracks or nothing,” Nihiser said.

The witness who says he saw the clown tried to stop, but claims the clown ran at him and he sped off.

Nihiser, an avid deer hunter, said neighbors were stunned when they were alerted.

The dog’s owner said he was a two-year-old mix-breed named Lincoln, and said his death has her very upset and a lot of the neighbors frightened.

“So right away everybody got shook up but nobody came with guns or nothing,” Nihiser said.

He has his own theory about how the dog died.

“Well a car hit that dog, because right where the blood is is where he laid and he died right there,” said Nihiser.

The Hocking County Sheriff is still investigating the death and has yet to interview the witness in that car. Whoever killed that dog could face an animal cruelty charge.
