Police say dumping ‘all at once’ led to West Chester chemical spill

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WLWT) — Police said they know what caused a chemical spill in West Chester.

There was a shelter in place Wednesday night after 60,000 pounds of lime chemical spilled at Superior Environmental Solutions.

Investigators said the chemical created a hazardous dust cloud.

On Thursday, police said three people admitted themselves to hospitals for throat irritation caused by the cloud.

As for how the chemical spilled, authorities said the driver dumping the lime into the pit dumped all of the chemical at once instead of “little by little.”

The EPA and OSHA will investigate to see if the company will be cited.
