Operation Football Week 9: Tippecanoe at Piqua

PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) –  Piqua began the night tied for first place in the GWOC North, but Tippecanoe was just one game behind with a chance to draw even with the Indians Friday night.

The Red Devils first-on-the-board thanks to this 20-yard field goal by junior kicker Caiden Smith.

The Indians answer with a score on their first drive. The big junior running back Ben Schmiesing powers his way into the end zone for the ten-yard touchdown. Piqua in front 7-3 and Bill Nees thinking that’s more like it boys.

Early second quarter watch Tipp’s Nyles Anderson on the reverse. The senior tailback finds a hole, reverses directions. Anderson could go all the way, but’s he’s finally pulled down at the seventeen.

The big run set-up another Red Devils field goal, Caiden Smith from 33-yards out… he’s got plenty of distance to clear the crossbar and plenty of distance to nail Hutch.. the ball boy watched and laughed.

With 36-seconds remaining in the first half Piqua’s Austin Davis delivers the 4-yard touchdown toss to Nathan Monnin.. the big senior tight end gives the Indians a 14-6 lead at halftime… and go ahead and ring the victory bell.

Piqua a touchdown better than Tippecanoe at 27-20.
