SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A Springfield mom accused of abandoning her 10-month-old son with a stranger pleaded not guilty to child endangering charges at Clark County Municipal Court Friday.
According to police records, Heather Shaw, 31, dropped the infant off at a woman’s house early Thursday morning. Investigators were told by the woman that the child was in a car seat and soaking wet from being out in the rain, had a full diaper and no food when they arrived.
Police Records also state Shaw was caught by the homeowner performing a sex act on a man inside the home. Shaw and the man were asked to leave, because they appeared intoxicated and possibly high on drugs. Fearing for the child’s safety, the woman offered to keep the baby for a few hours.
The woman told investigators that after 12 hours of not hearing from Shaw she became concerned and called police. Shaw was arrested and taken to Clark County Jail.
“She was trying to tell us that she was wanting to hire her as a babysitter. She had told us that she had only met her one or two times before. We asked this woman that and she said they just met at 1:00AM,” Springfield Police Detective Sandy Fent said.
Shaw’s bond was set at $1,000. The child remains in the custody of child services.
