NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Age is nothing but a number for a 101-year-old cheerleader who was honored at the Tennessee State University’s homecoming game last week.

Burnece Walker Brunson received the school’s 2016 Grand Marshall award.

She has a long history with the school. Brunson was a member of TSU’s cheerleading squad from 1934 to 1935, and she’s a member of the affinity chapter of alumni cheerleaders.

When News 2 spoke with her in 2012, Brunson said cheerleading was not only her passion, but the way she stays connected to her alma mater.

“Tennessee State is in my blood. I love this school and I will do whatever it takes to keep coming back.”
