DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A suspect is in custody after a woman was attacked while leaving Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway on Wednesday night.

Montgomery County Jail records show 24-year-old Nathan Griffith was booked into the jail around 12:50 a.m. on Friday.

Dayton Police were called to the casino around 10:00 Wednesday night on a call for help.

The woman told police she had been at the casino for about three and a half hours and had won “a little money.”

The woman told police as she was walking to her car around 9:45 with her purse in one hand and her car keys in the other when she was grabbed from behind.

She said she saw a white man grabbing her purse and she refused to let go as the attacker dragged her across the parking lot. According to the victim, the contents of her purse spilled on the ground and the man ran away. The attack can be seen on security video.

The woman described her attacker as a white man in his 20’s or 30’s with light hair, wearing a sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The man was later identified as Griffith. Police were able to identify Griffith because he used his driver’s license to get a player’s card inside the casino. Griffith made off with the woman’s checkbook, leaving the woman with some injuries.

According to a police report on the incident, Hollywood Casino Security personnel took written statements from two witnesses, one saw a man running from the scene along Wagner Ford Road, and another who saw the attack in the parking lot as they pulled in.

Police also said the casino has “very good security” and called this is an isolated incident.
