Airman surprises daughter during Kindergarten class in Pasco

HUDSON, Fla. (WFLA) – The day started like it always does in Ms. Snyder’s kindergarten classroom at Hudson Elementary School.

Students ate breakfast, then turned to their daily alphabet lesson. But for 5-year-old Kylie Cavero this day shaped up to be anything but normal.

Kylie hadn’t seen her father, U.S. Air Force Sgt. Elsiban Cavero, in six months. He was deployed working on his latest assignment. He arrived back home in Pasco County early Friday morning and wanted to surprise his daughter at school.

So, just after 9:00 a.m., he entered the classroom unannounced.

“Hi, daddy,” the little girl said, as her dad picked her up from the floor.

The two embraced. The little girl cried.

“I love you,” she said.

This is Cavero’s second tour with the Air Force. His first required him to spend time in Afghanistan to care for sick and injured children. He tells us it constantly reminded him of his daughter.

On this day, he was happy to be home to see her face-to-face.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Cavero said. “She’s my love. My everything.”

Cavero tells News Channel 8 he’s home to stay and will be based at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

Father and daughter plan to spend lunch together, then watch movies later in the day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
