VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A basement fire causes smoke damage to nearly all units inside an apartment in Vandalia.

It happened around noon in the 220 block of Tionda Drive.

A neighbor saw smoke coming from a basement window and called first responders, said Chad Follick, Vandalia Fire Chief.

Firefighters believe the fire started near the laundry room in the basement and were able to quickly knock it down.

No one was at the unit when the fire broke out, Follick said. When crews arrived, smoke detectors were working and were sounding.

“A quick notification led to a quick knock down, which led to a minimal amount of damage,” he said.

There were no injuries and residents will be relocated with the assistance of the Red Cross. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
