(NBC News) The search for an Oklahoma man accused of killing two people and wounding several more came to a deadly end early Monday morning.
After a killing spree, boasts and taunts online and more than a week on the run, Michael Vance was tracked down by police overnight in Oklahoma.
“There was a pretty fierce gun battle that raged for sometime and ultimately Vance was killed at the scene,” said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain Paul Timmons.
Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander was hit in the arm and shoulder during the shootout. His injuries are not life threatening.
Last week Vance shot two officers who approached him while Target shooting. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
After shooting Officer James Hampton in the foot and his partner in the leg, Vance stole a squad car, then carjacked a woman. On the run, he then started posting threats live on social media.
Police say Vance killed his aunt and uncle, and had recently been accused of sexually assaulting a child.
