DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Flu season is underway, and so far flu activity is mild here in the Miami Valley, said Dr. Joseph Allen with Family Medicine of Vandalia–Premier HealthNet.
According to the CDC, so far, Influenza A has been the most frequently identified strain in the United States.
“That tells us it’s a pretty typical flu season,” said Dr. Allen. “Influenza A is typically the most common strain we see each year. It is the most dangerous in that it can cause the most severe symptoms. When you hear someone going into the hospital because of the flu it’s usually because of Influenza A.”
He said flu activity usually peaks in January and February.
A reminder that only injectable flu shots are recommended this season.
