COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Innocence Project, Ohio’s public defender and a law clinic have formed a task force to review cases involving a state crime lab forensic scientist whose credibility has been questioned.
G. Michele Yezzo denies allegations that she was biased in favor of prosecutors and says she didn’t manipulate evidence. The West Jefferson woman worked for the attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation for three decades before resigning in 2009.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says his office reviewed some of Yezzo’s work and found no problems. DeWine says he’ll review further objections from attorneys case by case, rather than having a fuller review of Yezzo’s work.
Defense attorneys say a more credible review is needed about whether defendants’ right to a fair trial was jeopardized.
