DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Some time between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday, the shrine to the Virgin Mary at a Dayton Catholic church was vandalized.

It happened at 149 Franklin Street in Dayton. Someone entered the garden area and desecrated the shrine, according to a Dayton Police report.

Damage included breaking off the leg to one of the park benches, breaking off the hands and chipping off the paint of the hands of Mary.

More damage was done to the pergola surrounding the statue, like by ripping down the lattice and punching holes in it, according to the report.

There are no suspects as of Friday afternoon. If anyone has any information, they’re asked to call police.
