COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Federal prosecutors say a man trying to join ISIS was arrested as he boarded a plane Monday morning.
Aaron T. Daniels, also known as Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusuf is accused of providing or attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.
According to federal prosecutors, he was arrested Monday morning as he boarded a flight at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Prosecutors say he planned to join ISIS in Libya.
Daniels allegedly paid $250 to an ISIS recruiter and communicated his commitment to violent overseas jihad.
If convicted, Daniels faces up to 20 years in prison.
According to a federal complaint, Daniels wired money to an intermediary for Abu Isa Al-Amriki, a deceased ISIS member and recruiter. Daniels allegedly told an undercover FBI agent that he wanted to travel to Trinidad as the beginning of his trip to travel to Libya.
Prosecutors say he bought a ticket from Columbus to Houston, Texas and on to Trinidad.
Daniels was ordered held without bond.
