CAESARSCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — A toddler injured in a serious two-vehicle crash in Greene County has died.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol received confirmation from the Greene County Coroner’s Office that three-year-old Riley Staton from Jamestown, Ohio was pronounced dead just after 6 a.m. on Monday.

Staton was injured in an accident at the intersection of Hussey Road and Paintersville-New Jasper Road in Caesarcreek Township just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities said the toddler was in a car with her mother’s boyfriend.  He failed to stop at the two-way stop sign and collided into another truck.  Staton was not in a car seat nor did she have on a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Two adults were taken to local hospitals. Staton was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment, where she was pronounced dead on Monday morning.

Ohio state highway patrol is working with the Greene County prosecutor’s office to determine what charges should be filed.

The crash remains under investigation.
