Police: Bullet comes though window striking youth in bedroom

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police are investigating a shooting that ended with one youth shot in the arm.

The shooting happened around 7:00 p.m. in the 2100 block of Salem Avenue.

According to a police report on the incident, the shooting may stem from a fight between juveniles that happened Wednesday.

A 17-year-old male told police he was in an upstairs bedroom when he heard gunshots outside. A bullet came through the window and struck the teen in the arm. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The polcie reports says the address where the shooting happened is a group home for juveniles. The other residents told police there had been a fight the previous day between one of the residents and another youth in the neighborhood. The residence said around 7:00 p.m. several neighborhood teens were outside wanting to fight with one of the residents. When no one came outside, gunshots were heard, according to the report.

One 911 caller said that a tenant had been shot in the back of an alley nearby. Another caller reported hearing roughly 10 shots heard.
Police detained four juveniles nearby after the incident but no one was arrested.
