DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Just in time for the holidays, 15 Montgomery County children now have forever families. The Montgomery County Probate Court transformed into the North Pole on Thursday for National Adoption Day.
For Sandy and Francis Lemen, adopting Jaiyveon and Tony means their family is now complete.
“To make it final, I mean, they’ve always been in our family, but for them to take our name and actually be a forever family, I mean, they’re not going anywhere, so that in itself means the world to us,” Sandy said.
Sandy and Francis fostered the teenagers for almost four years.
“I’m very, very excited,” Tony said. “I’m so thankful to have a wonderful family that will take care of me for the rest of my life and will be there for me.”
Montgomery County Probate Judge Alice McCollum said the children adopted Thursday range from one to 15 years old.
“When the children come into their homes, they get into their hearts, and then they can’t let them go,” McCollum said.
The court was transformed into the North Pole for the occasion. The staff chose to decorate the halls with an “Elf” theme, based on the holiday movie.
“It’s an incredible gift,” Francis said. “Absolutely incredible gift. Best timing ever.”
“They have been a part of our family from day one,” Sandy said. “There has never been a thought of them ever leaving our home.”
