NEW PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) – One man was taken to the hospital and another to jail after deputies in Preble County were called to a shooting Friday morning.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that deputies were called to a home in the 6800 block of School Lane Road in New Paris just before 2:00 a.m.

When deputies arrived they learned 22-year-old Brett Taylor had been shot in the leg after an argument and was in a car parked down the road from the house.

According to the Sherrif’s Office, Deputies learned that four people were at the house arguing about drug use in the home. A fifth person arrived and shot Taylor in the leg with a .22 caliber revolver.

Taylor was taken to Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies arrested Michael McKinzie II, 26, who lived in the home. McKinzie was taken to the Preble County jail and is being held on preliminary charges of felonious assault and having weapons under disability.

The case will be sent to the Preble County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
