DYERSBURG, Tenn. (WDTN) — A child’s birthday party in Tennessee ends in tragedy with seven people shot and one of them dead.
Neighbors believe the shooting was gang related. They said people were hanging out on a porch when several gunmen opened fire and then ran.
It happened at a two-year-old’s birthday party in Dyersburg, about 80 miles north of Memphis.
Police said seven people were hit by gunfire. According to neighbors, the 21-year-old woman who was killed is the mother of the birthday child.
Among those rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds was a six-year-old. A neighbor helped the little girl before medics arrived, performing CPR on her.
“She was gasping for breath and all I knew was to try and keep performing CPR to keep her breathing, keep her heart rate up,” said Stephanie Childress who performed CPR.
The conditions of the victims are not known. Police say they are searching for up to three people they consider suspects. A motive has not been determined.
