BRADFORD, Ohio (WDTN) – The Darke County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in a sing-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office says Robert E. Rhoades, 71, of Piqua died in the accident that happened at about 3:37 p.m. in the 9100 block of U.S. Route 36.
Investigators say Margaret L. Rhoades, 66, was driving east on U.S. Route 36 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected and went off the left side and into a ditch. They say the jeep hit a fence and several trees.
Investigators say both occupants were not wearing seat belts, and both were ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Rhoades died at the scene, and his wife was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
The sheriff’s office says this marks the seventh deadly accident this year in the county.
The incident remains under investigation.
