Prosecutor to announce Ray Tensing retrial decision Tuesday

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WLWT) — Prosecutor Joe Deters will announce his decision on whether he will retry former University of Cincinnati officer Ray Tensing at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Tensing was charged with murder and voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of unarmed black motorist Sam DuBose during a July 2015 traffic stop.

After hearing five days of testimony, the jury deliberated for 25 hours over four days and was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on either charge. Later, Deters said that the final votes were 8 to 4 in favor of a conviction for voluntary manslaughter and 8 to 4 in favor of an acquittal on murder. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
