WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The West Carrollton City Council will vote Tuesday whether to purchase riverfront property.
The property is located at 5641 Marina Drive, the former home to Green River Sales.
The City says the 3,750 square foot property was most recently used for retail, small engine repair and storage. The property is being sold by the estate of Dannal K. Wade for $195,000. If approved by council, the closing will occur before Dec. 31, according to the city.
Economic development director Mike Lucking said the purchase price is fair and reasonable and supported by a third-party analysis. City manager Brad Townsend said that the city did not pursue the purchase. “We were approached by the executor of the estate,” he said.
“Purchase of this property is consistent with the city’s strategic vision for riverfront development,” Lucking said.
Officials say the property purchase would be paid using bond proceeds rather than general fund revenue.
In 2007, the city purchased 3 acres of property located between 5655 and 5671 Marina Drive – which was formerly known as the Boathouse property.
“Our city’s long-term goal is to position this riverfront area, which is also ideally aligned near the interstate, for future redevelopment,” Lucking said.
