(WOAI/NBC News) The man arrested for the ambush shooting death of a San Antonio Police Detective apologized as he was lead past reporters late Monday.
As he was being transported to the Bexar County Jail Monday night 31-year old Otis McKane said he was upset over a child custody battle involving his son.
“I’ve been through several custody battles, and I was upset at the situation I was in and I lashed out at somebody who didn’t deserve it,” McKane said when asked why shot Detective Benjamin Marconi.
“I’m sorry, it could have been anybody. I’m sorry for saying that also, because I didn’t mean it that way,” he added.
Detective Marconi was shot Sunday after making a traffic stop outside of San Antonio Police headquarters.
Police say McKane walked up to the driver’s side window of Marconi’s patrol car and fired, shooting him in the head.
