BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – Holiday shopping is well underway in the Miami Valley with several stores opening their doors ahead of Black Friday.
Checkout lines at Toys R Us in Beavercreek were full Thursday night. Lines were long, but customers were patient. Many of the customers we spoke with waited outside before the doors opened. We spoke to one woman who was the very first in line. She says cashing in on the savings was worth the wait.
Shoppers made their way through Toys R Us in Beavercreek Thursday, searching for the catalog’s door buster deals. Among them shopper was Julie Grigsby–who was the first in line at 2 o’clock.
“This is crazy,” Grigsby said. “But at least I will get Cosmo being the first person in line.”
She’s talking about the Cozmo robot–just one of many popular toys this season.
“I really wanted Hatch animals,” Kristen Stevenson said. “But they are like gone everywhere.”
In order to stay fully stocked with the most popular toys, Store Manager Jerry Campana says it takes the work of more than 50 store associates.
“This is about a month-long process as far as getting all the inventory in and then getting it staged,” Campana said. “My team was here late last night getting everything ready for the day. This is really the officially kick off to the Christmas season.”
Many hitting the stores had to skip out on Thanksgiving dinner early, but they aren’t regretting it.
“There’s a couple things I want that are Thursday sales only,” Melissa Clearly said. “This is the first time I’ve ever been out on a Thursday. Normally, I stay home.”
Clearly says for anyone heading to the stores this weekend patience is key.
“I think Black Friday is always chaotic,” Cleary said. “It’s just a matter of how you react to it.”
