TIPP CITY, Ohio (WDTN) — Tipp City’s downtown area has been designated a “Main Street USA”.
“It’s a wonderful feather in the cap for Tipp City as a whole,” said Heather Dorsten, Director of the Downtown Tipp City Partnership.
The city becomes one of about 15 communities in the state with the honor.
“It’s just another thing that shows how hard we’ve worked in Tipp City to make our downtown wonderful.”
Dorsten says they’ve been waiting for about a decade to be named a Main Street USA. It comes with perks.
“Extra funding for our downtown. Extra promotions we’re going to receive. We’ll receive grant opportunities, and be able to go to more training for our Heritage Ohio group,” she said.
The wheels are turning inside local businesses.
Melissa Cairns, owner of Cairns Toys, says the city is on the right track for growth.
“Now we have the recognition. People will realize that we have a very vital and important downtown business area,” she said.
Tipp City joins Piqua, Troy and Greenville as local towns with the honor.
“When they were looking at our downtown and program They really commented on our facade improvement program,” Dorsten said.
The partnership gives grants to local businesses hoping to improve the condition of their historic buildings.
“They would like to see a presentation on that for the rest of the state of Ohio.”
Something that could soon be coming to a Main Street near you.
