DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  A man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for the June shooting death of a building caretaker.

Jason Shontee was sentenced to 21 years in prison by a Montgomery County judge for the shooting death of 47-year-old Robert Hildebrand in June.

Prosecutors say Hildebrand had learned Shontee, who was homeless at the time, was stashing stolen items in the building HIldebrand was charged with taking care of. Hildebrand locked Shontee out of the building.

Shontee pleaded guilty in November in a surprise plea deal. The plea deal had an agreed mandatory sentencing of 15 to 21 years in prison. Shontee also agreed to pay restitution including Hildebrand’s funeral bill.
