Local businesses team up to help Gatlinburg

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Several area businesses are collecting donations and plan to deliver them to Gatlinburg by the end of this week.

As of Wednesday, the death toll from the wild fires had risen to seven.

Baker Salvage Co., Gem City Catfe (a new cat cafe), and Buckner Insurance are collecting water, toiletries and items for animals — like cat and dog food.

Jake Baker, the owner of Baker Salvage Co. was in Gatlinburg last week where he said he witnessed injured deer crossing roads and decided to take action.

“We actually had to stop because we saw hurt deer go in front of us and stuff like that got to me. Like, where are they going to go?” he said.

Sabrina Cox, the COO of Gem City Catfe tracked the wildfires on social media.

“We can share these links all day long, but we should really do something about this,” said Cox.

Cox plans to personally deliver the donations Friday afternoon.

“We’re going to drive down to Knoxville Expo Center. That’s as close as we can get and from there they will be delivered,” said Cox.

Places accepting donations:

2217 Miamisburg Centerville Rd, Dayton, OH 45459 – Buckner Insurance

31 S St Clair St, Dayton, OH 45402 – Baker Salvage Co.

They’re accepting gas gift-cards, water supplies, pet supplies and toiletries.
