UPDATE: ID released of man fatally shot on Catalpa Drive

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man shot and killed on Catalpa Drive on Thursday afternoon.

The coroner says the victim is 47-year-old Jerry Dewayne Henderson from Dayton.

Police responded to a shooting Thursday. It happened just after 12:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Catalpa Drive in Dayton.

Police dispatch say a male called to report that Henderson had broken into his apartment.

The caller reported that Henderson, known as “Hit Man” was there to collect extortion money. Henderson reportedly pulled a gun on the caller, and the caller shot Henderson in the head, police dispatch tell 2 NEWS.

Medics pronounced Henderson dead on the scene. Dayton police say the man who shot the victim acted in self defense.
