Trump EPA pick faces stiff opposition

(NBC News) President-elect Donald Trump has picked Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Pruitt is hardly a household name, but pick has triggered a storm of criticism.

Congressional Democrats have vowed to put up a fight against his nomination.

As Oklahoma Attorney General, Pruitt sued the EPA, supporting oil companies fighting regulation.

In a Trump transition release, Pruitt said: “The American people are tired of seeing billions of dollars drained from our economy due to unnecessary EPA regulations.”

“He’s going to try to turn the EPA into standing for Every Polluter’s Ally,” says Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

Democrats pledging to keep Pruitt from heading the EPA say they might try to force every Senate Republican to declare if they believe in global warming.

Meanwhile, Trump has reportedly picked Andy Puzder, a fast food ceo who opposes minimum wage hikes, to serve as Labor Secretary.

Democrats charge theTtrump team has one mission: “To dismantle and undermine and destroy the very agencies they are now hoping to run,” according to California’s Rep. Jared Huffman.
