Police: Victim was targeted in deadly Springfield shooting

Springfield Police investigate a shooting at a home in the 1200 block of South Fountain Avenue.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim in a deadly shooting in Springfield.

The coroner says the victim is 29-year-old Lacie Henry from Springfield. She was shot at least once, according to the Springfield police report.

Police responded to a shooting call in the 1200 block of South Fountain Avenue around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday.

The shooting happened during a home invasion, police say. Two armed men entered the home with a handgun and a long gun. Police believe they specifically targeted Henry.

There were several people inside the home who were not injured.

“The victim’s 2-year-old daughter was present in the home, actually one of the people in the home had shielded the 2-year-old daughter from harm, so we’ve got quite a few people to talk with about the individuals who forced their way into the home,” said Steve Moody, Springfield Police Chief.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound. Henry died at the scene.

As of Friday afternoon, no arrests have been made.

“There’s nobody in custody at this point in time, but we’re certainly going to assess the information we have thus far, coupled with the forensic evidence and move from there,” he said.

One of the suspects is described as having worn a black hoodie, red plastic skull mask and black sweatpants, according to a Springfield police report.

A crime scene unit and detectives were called to the scene of the shooting. It remains under investigation.
